news 7 Young entrepreneurs:

make 2013 a lucky year Successful young entrepreneurs know that you create your own luck, even if you’re superstitious about the number 13. John Bailey, a partner at Haines Watts, says the 2013 launch of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition (HWYE) will help young business people

Visitors to the HWYE website will find online support on offer and entrants to the competition also have the chance to win free mentoring and cash prizes.

The HWYE competition launches on Friday, March 1, is free to enter and is open to candidates who will not have reached their 36th birthday on July 31, 2013. Young entrepreneurs who live/ work in the Thames Valley area, defined as Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, are all invited to try their luck by submitting online a good business case for why they should win the competition.

There is no lower age limit but candidates must have been running their business for at least a year and must be able to provide sound financial information to back up their entry. If this isn’t you, but you know someone who might be interested in entering, please pass on the contact details below.

Semi-finalists will be chosen prior to a ‘grand final’ - with an overall winner - in the autumn.

Dale Barrett, the Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur winner in 2012 and co-owner of Inside Out Developments, said: “It was a great experience, entering the competition and getting through to the finals. The whole process made me really focus on what I was doing, how the business was going and what I needed to do to be successful in the future. It’s well worth entering the HWYE competition because winners not only get a cash prize and free publicity for their business but also free

advice on all aspects of running a successful enterprise.”

John Bailey added: “Young entrepreneurs need a great deal more than the Government schemes on offer and a good business idea. Haines Watts works with many young business people in its daily role as accountants and we know it can be a lonely place being a business owner who is fairly new to the scene. We are business owners ourselves and we are delighted to be able to support our young entrepreneurs by running our annual HWYE competition. We look forward to receiving our first entries.”
