he Alliance of States with Prescrip- tion Monitoring Programs (PMP) formed in 1990 with the mission

www.pmpalliance.org. Now, the Alliance is a valuable resource
to those compelled to combat the increase in prescription drug abuse, misuse and di- version. Tey collect information on PMPs such as: which schedules are collected, who are authorized users, how oſten data is reported to the PMP, and how data can be used. Tere are 48 states and one territory that
currently have either an operating PMP or have passed legislation to implement them. Te Alliance also operates as a forum for
these groups and further offers expertise in: • Supporting the establishment, opera- tion and enhancement of PMPs through methods like funding information
• Enhancing drug abuse intervention and prevention programs through informa- tion exchange
• Conducting research on and provid- ing training in the use of prescription controlled substances to protect public health and safety
• Developing guidance documents, such as the Model Prescription Monitoring Program Act, to help states develop and operate their PMP Te Alliance’s expertise and resources
can assist DATIA members through its Resource section of the website. From here, DATIA members can learn what states are doing via the State Profiles and learn even more through the State Profiles Reports on statistics of their programs. By learning what states are doing regard- ing prescription drug monitoring and the statistics that they are reporting, DATIA
