Results Based on our results, the most common
synthetic cannabinoids were JWH-018 at 63.3 percent followed by JWH-073 at 31.2 percent combining for 94.5 percent of all positive tests. Te additional synthetics, JW- 122, JWH-250, RCS-4, and AM-2201, have been found within the last six months, but their prevalence rate has not increased signifi- cantly. Te total positive percentages for each synthetic cannabinoid are found in Figure 1. Te donor Reason for Test are broken
down in Figure 2 with the percentage of testing falling into the Random (37 percent), Not Specified (20 percent), Pre-Employment (17 percent), Reason- able Cause (9 percent), Other (9 percent), Post Accident (5 percent), Follow-Up (2 percent), and Return to Duty (1 percent) test groups. No atempts were made by the laboratory to clarify the “Not Specified” category and reassign the donor. Te initial tests were heavily weighted to the “Reason- able Cause” and “Post-Accident” catego- ries. However, the frequency of Random and Pre-Employment categories are rapidly increasing in number due to clients adding a synthetic cannabinoid panel to their routine company drug test. Te percent positives for synthetic
cannabinoids by Reason for Test are compared in Figure 3. Te highest percent positive category is “Other”. No atempts were made by the laboratory to clarify the Reason for Test and reassign them. Not surprisingly, the second highest rate of 11.1 percent was found in the Reasonable Cause category followed closely by an additional 5.6 percent in the Post-Accident category. Tis is an excellent example of manage- ment performing additional testing when an employee is not performing his/her job. If testing for synthetic cannabinoids had not been performed, these individuals would not have been identified as under the influence of a drug. Tey then could have been involved in equipment dam- age or injury to themselves or others with

Te Pre-Employment rate of synthetic can- nabinoids is nearly identical for our non-reg- ulated testing positive rate for marijuana and
