BIOG Having received considerable acclaim as solo musicians, Koi Paraga formed in August 2010. Teir ambitious aspirations required several years of rehearsal, to consolidate eclectic approaches. Teir first, publicly advertised performance was at the UEA Livewire Unsigned competition, which they won. As part of their prize package, they have two days of recording in Access studios in February, when they plan to record an album.

BAND MEMBERS Tom Conway- Guitarist; has released eight solo albums to date.

Danny Whitehouse- Vocalist; graduate of the renowned UEA Creative Writing programme.

Will Wright- Double bassist; has played in four bands, most notably the Mustard City Rockers.

Dom ‘Screaming Jay’ Jarvis- Percussionist and vocalist; “ this allusive young man is one of [Norwich’s] most haunting and resonant acoustic artists”.

SOUNDS LIKE “Our first EP has fuelled debates of classification. People seem to find it hard to place us, despite finding deep empathy and resonance with the sound. I suppose it's this connection or shared concern which we strive to reach or appeal to. Te lyrics are seeking to develop a framework for understanding how we process emotional issues, and how we communicate and cooperate with one another. Our hope is that we sound like you, that we offer some insight into the trials that all people face and conquer. Te BBC has termed us high-brow, and although we certainly want our music to be accessible, we naturally avoid superficiality, and the gimmicks of pop music.”

INFLUENCES Danny’s singing has been likened to Billie Holiday’s emotional expressiveness, and his lyrics to Ernest Hemmingway. Tom’s guitar has been compared to John Renbourne and Bert Jansch. Teir initial partnership was formed with the intention of replicating or reinventing the emotional sensitivity and passion of John Martyn, in a unique and personal way. Will’s influences, as Double Bassist, are broad and varied, contributing subtly and incisively to their delicate soundscape. Adaptable and thoughtful, Will brings an understated power to the music. He is particularly inspired by Cinematic Orchestra's Phil France and the legendary Charles Mingus. Dom’s involvement in the band added a positive tension and earnest eeriness, which is inspired by artists such as God and Bjork, Hanne Hukkelberg and Prince.
