TOO SCARED TO LEAVE THE HOUSE
What’s that gleaming light on the horizon? Tat shiny beacon returning to glory? It’s the polished head of household favourite, Lee Hurst coming back to where he’s loved best, on the road! After a ten-year absence and a few warm up dates, Lee is properly back on the road and brings his brand new show Too Scared To Leave Te House to the Maddermarket Teatre on Tuesday 5th February. Best known from the BBC's Tey Tink It's All Over, Lee will cast his comedy eyes over the many end-of-the-world scare stories from Acid Rain and Global Warming to Bird Flu and Mad Cow Disease. He will muse over the everyday dangers that face us in our daily lives. Lee believes you have a choice, stay indoors clutching a Ray Mears book or go out and laugh in the face of doom. Lee has taken time out during his 40’s to run his Backyard Comedy Club in the East End of London, but now that he's 50 he's pleased to be back on the road. WORD UP
He catalogued half of the nineties as it was unfolding in front of our eyes – our shocked, delighted and entertained eyes – as presenter for iconic late- night programme, Te Word. Now, Terry Christian takes on the UK on a tour of the country bringing his Mancunian wit to our own Epic Studios on February 21st. Terry will take you through the life and times of one the UK's most entertaining TV presenters – his own. Join him on a hilarious romp through the troubled inner-city Manchester childhood of one of Britain’s most notorious and outspoken TV presenters. Terry bares all in his debut stand-up show, lifting the lid on his Catholic upbringing, ‘Madchester’, Te Word and Celebrity Big Brother, in the process – definitely not for the fainthearted! When gang warfare in Moss Side is the least of your worries compared to sadistic nuns, paedophile priests and your best mate is the school bully who just wants to kick your head in, is it any wonder he turned out the way he did?! Catch him at Epic Studios, on Magdalen St. Tickets are £8 advance, £10 on the door, from www.epic-
tv.com, or by calling 01603 727727.
PEOPLE PERSON
Lucy Porter is back on the road in 2013, after celebrating fifteen years at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival, with her critically acclaimed new show ‘People Person’. Te show is based around a fascinating true story with a stunning twist in the tale. Along the way, the thirty- something mum of 'Irish twins' (not Jedward thankfully) brings us her hilarious stand up observations. She tackles the big subjects; happiness, home shopping, friendship and the psychological impact of daytime TV's Dom Littlewood. It's a feel-good night of comedy that will appeal to audiences of all ages. Lucy had been absent from Edinburgh for the last two years, as she decided to produce children instead of fringe shows. Last year she spent 18 of the 24 months pregnant. Te Observer attest to her unwavering talent though, as they describe they show as “…Bright and frank … proving that her time off has not dimmed her comic energy, just given her richer material to work with”. Lucy takes in Norwich as she brings the show to Te Playhouse on Saturday February 2nd. For tickets, go to

SWIM DEEP
At the time of writing, Birmingham-based band, Swim Deep, are enjoying a lofty position in a coveted musical spot. Te strongly contested number one spot on the Popular Chart of music blog Hype Machine (
http://hypem.com) currently belongs to the four-piece’s track ‘Honey’, a slice of sunny grunge-pop that disobeys the connotations of their hometown of Birmingham. Tey’re part of a Birmingham scene that’s doling out great, promising bands like Peace (who we’ve interviewed in this very issue) and Jaws. Tey look like models from a 90s Topman grunge-inspired photo shoot. But they sound lots more authentic. Listening to their number one track on Hype Machine may seem a little impersonal for your first introduction to the band, so you’ll be pleased to hear there’s something much more tangible coming up. Te band are playing at OPEN on Bank Plain on 25th February and you can get tickets at
www.open247.org.uk. We also interviewed the band in prep for the show, and you can read the full chat online at
Outlineonline.co.uk throughout February.
