04 EVENT REVIEW What you missed!


There’s something quite trippy about walking into a room full of crazy looking confectionary, Hello Kitty memorabilia and Samurai swords. Hmmmm, all is not as it seems. No, I haven’t been transported into a Manga addict’s wet dream and Mummy Kitty has not infested Earls Court with her spawn. This is of course Hyper Japan, the country’s leading celebration of all that’s hip in modern Japanese culture.


With it being only four weeks until Christmas, the creators of Hyper Japan put on another award winning display of food, fashion and fun. Yes, this is Hyper Japan Christmas. You won’t find any of your traditional nativity scenes, fur-lined red stockings or stands of mulled wine here though. Instead, Earls Court was transformed into a haven for Japanese culture fanatics with toys, sweets, costume and sake. There was even an adorable display of plastic horses for the My Little


Pony enthusiasts amongst us (er...of which I am clearly one - Princess Majesty BFF!)


Speaking of costume, Hyper- goers were treated to some pretty spesh fashion shows. Let’s just say that these dudes do not do things by halves. The Kawaii Fashion Show kicked off the first of some pretty spectacular events on the main stage. Girl after sickly sweet girl skipped along the catwalk, strutting her stuff in elaborately sugar-coated ensembles,
