Album Of The

Month Tanya Lacey Head Chef 2012 Laceywood

Recordings Album of the month goes to this new budding artist from the UK, Tanya Lacey. ‘Head Chef’ is an exciting fresh collection of RnB and Pop infused tracks that work fantastically well. The production behind this album is guaranteed to impress! Tanya’s musical style incorporates a mixture of genres from hip hop, dubstep to reggae and dance. Her voice oozes soul with a hint of similarity to the young Keyshia Cole, although an album of ballads this is not! Head Chef is full of vibrant uptempo beats with bangers such as ‘Greatness’ ‘Letter To My Ex’, ‘Too Many Cooks’ and ‘Must Be The Shoes’. All of which scream star quality. So head to iTunes and download it now!

Whatever Happened to..

Supercat Being involved in the music scene since the age of 7, Supercat was no overnight success! It was his signing with Columbia Records that saw his career really take off. First came the album ‘Don Dada’ which featured single of the same name, his biggest hit to date. Further releases ‘Good, the Bad, the Ugly & the Crazy’, ‘The Struggle Continues’, ‘Take 2’ on Sony’s label and ‘Reggaematic Diamond All-Stars’ on his own label Wild Apache soon followed. He has been decidedly quiet in recent years but did feature on Nas’ 2012 single ‘The Don’, which samples his track ‘Dance Inna New York’.

Pop: Justin Timberlake - Suit & Tie

2012 RCA Records Star rating:tar r H H H H Justin marks his musical return after a six-year hiatus with this classy joint ‘Suit & Tie’. This could have easily been a step in the ever-so predictable direction of most artists - a more Pop centric sound. However Justin has stuck to his guns with an authentic RnB track that brings the two step back to the dancefloor. Jay Z also lends a verse to add the finishing touch and voila its RnB back in the making!

Hip Hop: Slum Village - B-Sides

Ne’ astra Music Star rating:H H H H Record label Ne’astra has released a 10-track compilation album from legendary Hip Hop group Slum Village. Although this compilation has nothing new to offer in terms of fresh material, it is still something to be excited about. With tracks like ‘The Look of Love 2’, ‘Cloud 9’ featuring Marsha Ambrosius and ‘Scheming’ with the late JDilla, this album showcases some of the best production skills out of Detroit and is definitely worth a space in your music collection.

Afrobeats: May7even - Hey Mr

Star rating:H H H H The Queen of Afrobeats May7ven is back with another hit song and more than ever she has the paparazzi anticipating her every move. Following her biggest release to date ‘Ten Ten’ which goes down in history as an Afrobeats anthem, she’s back with her new single ‘Hey Mr’ produced by Del B. The energy that May7ven and Del B bring to this track is evident from the very first few seconds and grows throughout. May7ven fans are eagerly awaiting the video, myself included. Hey…I

wonder who will play the lucky ‘Mr’ in this one? Words by Vinnie Vii

Team RnB vs Hip Hop

Team RnB - Destiny’s Child – Nuclear – Sony Music Beat drops and I’m back in the 90s. Destiny’s Child have returned and they’re doing a little New Jack Swing with new track ‘Nuclear’. Produced by Pharell Williams the song features on the upcoming album ‘Love Songs’, to be released at the end of the month. With this track DC showcase why they are the original girl group of the 00s with those sublime smooth as silk harmonies. Whatever you’ve got to say Les, you can’t deny DC reign!!

Team Hip Hop - Big Noyd, Kool G Rap & Large Professor - Naturally Born I am coming from a place that true hip hop heads will appreciate, that classic 90’s sound can never grow old as Big Noyd, Large Professor & Kool G Rap take us on a trip to New York. Produced by Ayatollah the beat flows nicely as these old school MC’s lace the beat with lyrics in ode to this golden era of sound. So rather than quibble over this weak come-back track by Destiny’s Child, I’m simply going to leave you to it!
