ignoring it. The mixture of the two is what is called con- sciousness. When our mind pays attention to our soul and our mind and soul carry the same data, hold the same idea and possess the same perspective, we are fully conscious. In real terms, what is happening now is that our consciousness is expanding as the awareness of our soul comes to the atten- tion of our mind.
Increased consciousness brings along with it an in-
creased sensitivity to every aspect of life, which results in an expansion of the effect that all of life has on us. We are becoming more capable than ever, as life calls upon us to pay more attention to more things, in more ways, more of the time.
If we become what we focus on, and the majority of us are paying more attention now to the desire for peace and prosperity, why don’t we have those things?
Everyone on the planet wants peace, prosperity, security, opportunity, joyful self-expression, happiness and love. However, the reason we can’t get what we want is that these are all the wrong objectives. In the first quarter of the 21st century, nine-tenths of the world’s people are still deprived of these things. Most of the one-tenth is not peaceful and happy because they’re spending their time worrying about how to hold on to what they have or trying to figure out a way to increase it.
If we want these things, are we selfish?
Desire fuels the process of evolution. The idea that selfish- ness is bad is totally out of harmony with that process. The problem is that we are reaching for the wrong “stuff” and headed in the wrong direction, trying to get to a place of inner peace, quiet joy, global harmony and deep, sweet hap- piness, and we’re thinking we can get there by scrambling for outer accoutrements. When we change the focus of our desires to the one thing that matters, we will change the forces that work against us and achieve what we say we want. The whole world will change. When we change the idea that the so- called “self” includes only us, we will find true selfishness serves all of humanity. This is the transformation for which the entire human race yearns, and which is now within our grasp at last, after thousands of years of searching and reach- ing for it. I am certain that this dramatic shift in our collective and individual lives is our crucial next step in evolution. I think we are more ready and able now than ever be- fore to hear and apply this message. Our past has been a struggle to simply survive, just to deal with the exigencies of everyday life on the physical level. Now our species has evolved to the point where we can take care of most of that because we have the technology and the wherewithal to do so.
