COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE


This unique event features a day of workshops, roundtable discussions and reading sessions specifically designed for the collegiate and pre-service music educator. This year’s


conference will be held on Saturday, March 16th, 2013 at Central Michigan University. Details and registration forms will be coming soon, so stay tuned. Interesting in helping with this event? ELEMENTARY CHORAL FESTIVALS


Now in their 2nd year, these festivals are open to 4-6th graders. The purpose of the MMEA Elementary Choral Festivals is to promote children's joy of singing. Choral members will have an opportunity to perform high quality choral literature under the direction of expert master clinicians. This ½ day work- shop will be held in three locations this year, as we are pleased


to announce the addition of a 3rd “Western Region” site*: Location TBD

BAND CLINIC


MMEA is pleased to announce a NEW event, the MS/HS Band Clinic! This non-adjudicated event will be held at Dewitt High School on Friday and Saturday, March 15 & 16, 2013, featuring top-notch clinicians providing valuable feedback for your group. Each ensemble will receive 15 minutes of performance time followed by 15 minutes of clinic on stage in the Dewitt HS Auditorium. High school AND middle school bands are welcome! HONORS COMPOSITION CONCERT


The MMEA Honors Composition Concert is an outstanding event that provides an opportunity for students to compose and perform original music. It also provides a forum for the development of students as composers and performers.


Composers, kindergarten through 12th grade, can submit original compositions; selected compositions will be performed at the prestigious Honors Composition Concert at the Annual Michigan Music Conference (January 2013). Applications were due in early November, and the winners will be announced on our website in the coming weeks. Thank you to all who submitted compositions!


MICHIGAN MUSIC CONFERENCE


The 2013 Michigan Music Conference (MMC) will be held at the beautiful Amway Grand Plaza Hotel/Devos Place (Grand Rapids, MI) from January 17-19, 2013. Register NOW by visiting www.michiganmusicconference.org. MMEA is proud to sponsor two Pre-Conference events at the MMC—the General Music Workshop and the Research Symposium. Both


held on Thursday, January 17, these events are in their 2nd year and will feature fantastic speakers and activities for immediate use. Pre-registration is required. Cynthia Taggert (professor, Michigan State University) will be organizing the presenters for this year’s MMC General Music Workshop, so it’s sure to be a great event!


GENERAL MUSIC FALL WORKSHOP


MMEA is pleased to announce this new event, the General Music Fall Workshop! Are you a new elementary music teacher looking for some helpful tips? How about a veteran teacher looking for fresh ideas? Either way, this event has something for you. This workshop will be held in late September (date TBA) on the beautiful campus of Hope College (Holland, MI). We are in currently in the planning stages, so please check our website in the near future for further updates: www.mmeamichigan.org.


FLINT-AREA PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS


The Flint-Area Music Educators PD Group (FAME) is com- mitted to providing elementary general music teachers with high-quality professional development workshops from a vari- ety of methodological approaches, which combine classroom- ready activities and broader theoretical ideas for consideration. The first two workshops of the year featured Judith Barthwell and Jennifer Bailey. The next workshop will be held on Satur- day, February 2, 2013, and will feature guest speaker Julie Skadsem.
