VOLUME 3
State Level next year. I have a huge collection of novels and books in my house which I read over and over again. I’m also passionate about oratory which explains the fact that I am a debater and represented my school in the debate competitions. And also, I’m absolutely passionate about writing. It doesn’t matter whether I’m writing a blog post or an English essay for my exam, I just love doing it.
Give a brief description of a weekday when you have to go to school? I wake up early in morning, do the normal morning routine and have breakfast with my family. My grandfather usually sends me to school. Upon reaching school, I’m usually greeted by my friends with huge smiles plastered on their faces. We talk and try to summarise everything that happened the day before and head to class. In class, we learn and study by using the eight thinking maps. Homework is usually given, so that’s what I do when I reach home. After that I revise my lessons before it’s bed time.
What do you enjoy doing during the weekend? I enjoy taking a break after somewhat rather tiring and hectic week! I check my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and just talk to my friends. As a Form 4 Science stream student, I enjoy studying Chemistry or practising lots of Additional Mathematics’ questions, with the aid of the Thinking Maps of course! And also, my weekends are enjoyed by going out for lunch or dinner with my family!
What is your ambition and how do you plan to achieve it? Ever since I was young, I wanted to be doctor, majoring in gynaecology. I’m studying really hard to obtain 9A+ in my SPM examination and hopefully get a JPA scholarship. I’m working really hard to get myself into Universiti Malaya and further my studies in medicine.
How can youngsters and students best use their time without getting into bad habits? To begin with, youngsters and students should indulge themselves in hobbies where they enjoy what they do. It doesn’t matter whether they draw, read or even surf the internet because as long as they are having fun and learning something new, that’s surely good enough to keep them away from getting into bad habits.
Do you love music and who are your favourites? Yes, of course I love music. I believe it’s a form of relaxation and just another way to unwind. I personally love music from One Direction and Justin Bieber. While some may see One Direction as just a British boy band, I see them as inspirational and self-motivational. Their lyrics are meaningful and always inspire me to be a better person. Same goes to Justin Bieber where his songs always inspire me to believe in myself and to stay true to who I am.
Diviya’s Winning Essay - Malaysian Music
Ask a little boy: “What musical instrument do you play?’ I wouldn’t be surprised if I hear him answer, “Oh, I play the guitar or the piano”. How I wish the reply was: “I play the kompang, pipa or the sitar.”
Kompang, pipa and sitar are renowned classical music instruments which has their origins from the three main races of Malaysia. These classical instruments prominently exhibit and maintain Malaysia's multicultural and multiracial heritage.
Not only are these musical instruments melodious and harmonious, they represent our various cultures and spark the true colours of our nationality. It is an undeniable fact that these musical instruments are simply exotic and enchanting. One of the ways to popularise these musical instruments internationally is by organising exhibitions to promote our Malaysian music to the rest of the world.
The private sectors or non-governmental organisations can play their part by hosting friendly music competitions among local and international residents. Moreover, our very own Malaysian music artistes should play these musical instruments as part and parcel of their rendition of songs or performances. Believe it or not, it is up to us whether these musical instruments end up in the ancient museum or make it big internationally.
