IMPROVING THE TH Brace Map and Flow Map to e The Brace Map is used to analyse the component parts of physical objects and also

to identify the spatial relationships of parts to the whole object. When constructing a Brace Map students write the name of the whole

project on the line to the left and on the lines within the first brace to the right write the major parts of the object then follow within the next set of braces with the component parts of each major part. The Brace Map must be used with concrete objects in order to

identify the physical parts of the whole object and they almost always use nouns within

the map because the purpose is to name the parts of one concrete object. The map is great for vocabulary development because specific words are needed to label the parts. This is a great thinking map to help students visualise all the components in something. In the classroom, students can use a Brace Map to describe the parts of the year, parts of an animal, parts of a plant, parts of the world and also parts of different systems, like the body

system and the solar system. An example of a Brace Map is:

Mouth Digestive Circulator BODY SYSTEM Respiratory Nervous

Esophagus Stomach Intestines

Heart Veins Arteries Capillaries

Nose Lungs Trachea

Brain

Spinal Cord Nerves
