Rickshaw fundraiser for Children in Need continued from page one
Wateringbury every other Mon- day. His mother Mandy has a brain injury and short-term memory loss, as well as some physical impairments, while his younger brother Stephen has severe autism. Their older sister Sophie has autism, epilepsy and severe arthritis and James helps her with her physiotherapy every morning before college. Although James’ father Andy
is very supportive and they are a close-knit family with a lot of support from social workers and therapists, much of James’ young life has been spent in the role of carer. Cross Roads Care was awarded funding from Children in Need two years ago, which has allowed it to provide a sec- ond club night and to develop its family support programme. Chief executive officer Irene Jeffrey said: “This is hugely ex- citing for us as a charity and es- pecially for James, who is such a lovely young man and a great support to our other young car- ers. He is a bright and caring selfless inspiration who loves an opportunity to fundraise.” The Children in Need Rick-
shaw Challenge was started last year when the One Show pre- senter Matt Baker rode from Ed- inburgh to London.
School run warnings CROSSING patrol signals are being installed near Kings Hill Primary School to warn road users of peak school hours. The parish council has been working with KCC and the school on the project, which will be financed by County Cllr Richard Long’s member’s high- way fund. The signals will be sited on
both approaches to the round- about at the junction with Alexander
Grove.Aspeed indi- cator device is also being funded by County Cllr Long and will be located in residen- tial areas to target speeding on Kings Hill.

with a difference in that ‘Team Rickshaw’ comprises James plus five other youngsters, all of whom have been either sup- ported by or still are supported by BBC Children in Need funded projects. They will take turns to com-
plete the pedal push, arriving at the Children in Need HQ as the show goes out live on air, on the night of Friday November 16. James said: “The challenge is
going to be very hard but it will be a great achievement to get to the end.”
Irene Jeffrey said: “As well as providing care and support within his family, James has also helped andmentored other young carers through Cross- roads Young Carers project.” James, who is a student at Canterbury College, studying motor vehicle engineering, said: “I like the idea of helping to raise money for a charity that helped Crossroads and it’s nice to get young carers known.” Crossroads Care West Kent is
a charity that was established in 2001 to provide respite breaks for carers.
