Standards. Tis provides a framework for educational institutions of all types to move forward in preparing their students for careers in digital signage. Te newly published standards create a clearly defined path by which students can take existing courses in most educational institutions and prepare themselves for inclusion in this fast moving industry. Te key is to incorporate them into existing courses to create programs leading to employment in the industry. Te good news is that there are opportunities at every level of higher education from the vocational school to graduate studies. To support these efforts the DSF has established a
DSF Student Chapter Program for educational institu- tions. Tis program provides experience and immersion in the industry as students study and prepare for the real world. Te first student chapter at Texas State Technical College has graduated their first class and placed students in jobs in the digital signage industry facilitated by intro- ductions through chapter activities. Members of the DSF Student Chapter Program are also given additional support by the DSF in the way of formal certifications that are rec- ognized by the industry as a whole. One such program is the Digital Signage Certified Experts (DSCE) designation that has over 10,000 members in 62 countries to date. Te DSF and the National Digital Signage Education Standards, along with the Student Chapter Program and
industry certifications like the DSCE, is but one keen ex- ample of the kind of programs we as educators will have to embrace as our industry changes. Te world’s fastest sales training program teaches us that there are only three ways to make a sale: number one is solve a problem, number two is improve a situation, and number three is to provide something of value that was not there before. If we apply these axioms to education and look at the opportunities in the world of digital signage, I think we have sound math and a great partnership with students as the beneficiaries.
