Ben covered in beans


The manager of Looe’s Cancer Research shop braved a gunking in baked beans as part of the charity’s national Stand Up to Cancer campaign.


Ben Oldfield said that as well as raising around £250 through sponsorship and a collection on the day, the event was also a fun way to get people into the shop to have a chat about the work of Cancer Research.


‘It was a good day and it attracted loads of people,’ said Ben. ‘Hopefully it raised a bit of awareness with a lot of people coming into the shop.


‘It gave us time to talk about the research we do.


‘Some of what we do can be quite serious, so it’s also nice to be able to celebrate what we do and have a bit of fun.’


Janet’s coffee success


Disabled Janet Stevens who lives in a small warden controlled flat at East Looe is delighted to report that the event she held as part of the annual Macmillan Big Coffee Morning raised more than £250.


She was helped by her friend Gill Powell who baked the cakes and there were some generous raffle donations.


‘I would like to thank everyone who came and supported Macmillan,’ said Janet.
