Deano helps to cut cake at special event

There has been a special celebration at the West Looe Playgroup to officially re-open it after some extensive decoration and refurbishment, making it a colourful and comfortable environment.

Helping them to enjoy their new surroundings was Deano the Dolphin and Yellow Coat Adam who paid a visit from nearby Tencreek Holiday Park.

The chairman of West Looe Trust, Geraldine Oliver, cut the ribbon to officially declare the building re-open.

Among those attending were Looe

mayor and mayoress David and Annette Bryan, and those who had helped to do the work.

There was a big celebration cake for everyone to enjoy.

Angela Ede, vice chairman of the playgroup’s management committee, said: ‘I feel very pleased, privileged and proud to have been a member of the team, and in particular the one that saw this project through.

‘I would like to say a special thank you to Colin Crabb as without him the project would not be the finished article that it is.’

Flowers for a Super Sparrow

There is a new boat in West Looe called Super Sparrow, and it has a dry mooring on a piece of ground next to St Nicholas Church.

The area was once a pretty flower bed, tended and cared for by the late Mr and Mrs David Holland. Now Looe In Bloom has carried on the Hollands’ legacy and have been delighted to receive a donation from a resident who wanted something special in her late husband’s memory.

Mrs Pat Sparrow says her husband Alfred used to watch Mr Holland looking after the garden and liked to chat him while admiring the plants.

‘The flower boats around Looe are so pretty and I asked Looe In Bloom if I could sponsor a new one in memory of my husband,’ said Pat.

‘We retired to Looe in 1996 because we loved the area so much.’

Pat says because of Alfred’s career - he was chairman of the company Sparrow Crane Hire - he was always known by his friends as Super Sparrow.

‘I thought it would be a nice idea to name the boat after him and have it in the colours of the company’s red cranes,’ she said.
