What's Up • Holiday Guide 2012 Treasure House Celebrates 50 Years!
there are no paid members. We have depended on civ- ic-minded local people to keep our shop open and busy, six days a week.
Santa Rosa, CA. ~ My name is Barbara O’Connell, and I am in charge of Publicity for Treasure House, a non-profit consignment store in Santa Rosa. We donate our profits to the YWCA Safe House for battered women and children, and also help support The Redwood Gospel Mission, St. Vincent’s Kitchen, Kid’s Street and other organizations. We not only donate to many local charitable organizations, but our consignment program helps many people earn a little
extra money. We are always looking for new volunteers and consignors, and encour- age people to stop by or call for more information.
This year marks our 50th
anniversary in business. I don’t know if Burl and Buddy Howell would have guessed their little consignment store would still be operating after 50 years, but I’m sure they would be happy to know we are still giving back to the community. We are all vol- unteers at Treasure House;
On November 30th and December 1st we are hav- ing our Annual Christmas Shoppe open house. This is our largest event of the year, fea- turing Christmas items, free refresh- ments, a raffle with really great prizes
and our “famous” homemade cookies, which have become a favorite over the years. The hours are 10 AM until 4 PM both days.
If you have any questions about our organization, please contact me at (707) 480-9938, or our current President, Henrietta Sommerville at the store (707) 523-1188. Feel free to stop by our shop at 700 Wilson Street – we would be happy to see you and show you around.

Lee appears on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 3-5 p.m. at the Flamingo Hotel, 2777 Fourth St., Santa Rosa. Admission is $5 for members, $8 for nonmem- bers. Sponsored by Redwood Writers. Pangium edule is a tall tree in Southeast Asia that produces a fruit the size and shape of a football. Hence one of its names, football fruit, also known as pangi, kepayang and pakem. Its taste and odor have been compared to durian fruit. The seeds, bark and leaves are poisonous. The seeds are used to kill rats and wild chickens, and the bark and leaves are used to stun fish so they can be scooped up easily.
National Biscuit Company (now Nabisco) introduced Ritz Crackers for 19 cents a box in November, 1934 in Philadelphia and Baltimore. They were an immediate success.
The company produced over 5 billion of them in 1935, which worked out to 40 crackers for every man, woman and child in the U.S. They are still a best seller today.
