Professor Michael O’Neill FEA, FRSA Director


Michael O’Neill is Professor of English. He was Head of Department from 1997 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2005. Professor O’Neill has published books, chapters, and articles on many aspects of Romantic literature, especially the work of Percy Bysshe Shelley, and on an array of British, Irish, and American twentieth- and twenty-first century poets. He is also a published and award-winning poet.


Professor Colin Bain CChem, MRSC Director


Colin D. Bain has been Professor of Chemistry at Durham since 2005, having previously served at Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard. His research is in the chemistry and physics of interfaces, with applications in lubrication, detergency, printing and optics. He has received awards for research in the UK, Japan, India, and Australia, and currently sits on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Max Planck Institute for Colloid and Interface Research and of Oxford Capital Partners.
