‘Durham University is stimulating and inspiring. I intend to do my best back at Berkeley to create a similar environment.’ Martin S Banks

‘The IAS offers a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with people from wide-ranging disciplines and provided a chance to hear how differently people from contrasting disciplines may conceptualise problems – opening possibilities for new ways of thinking.’ Andrew Crumey

Professor Mary Carruthers New York University, USA Hatfield College

Although best known for her scholarship on medieval memory, Mary Carruthers turned much of her Fellowship to contemporary matters: the complex narratives associated with the World Trade Centre memorial and ‘Ground Zero mosque.’ Her engagement with sociologists at the IAS led to an Insightspaper on this theme, and will eventually inform a teaching seminar to an international audience at NYU-Abu Dhabi.
