Durham University's Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) is a multidisciplinary research institute that gathers together world-class scholars, intellectuals and public figures from all disciplines to address topics of major academic, public and policy interest. It is one of only a handful of such institutions around the world that facilitates research across the sciences, the arts, the social sciences and the humanities.
Located in Cosin’s Hall, a magnificent historical building on a world heritage site next to Durham Cathedral, the Institute places Durham right at the heart of an international community of universities considered to be the best, the most innovative and the most creative sites of scholarship. Generating the ideas that transform thought and practice, the IAS also seeks to communicate complex problems to a range of audiences with clarity and vision.
