Whilst Rik Leemans usually examines pressing environmental issues in biodiversity and land use, his IAS Fellowship allowed him to put his applied research into a wider perspective. He considered generally how to improve interdisciplinary education in the biosciences, and looked at the history of climate change denial, and other sorts of scepticism.

Literary critic and cultural historian Henrietta Mondry examined the work of Alexander Prokhanov, a Russian author who envisions the future in terms of the New Eurasia concept. As well as publishing two articles on this topic, she collaborated with colleagues in Modern Languages and Classics.

Holding PhDs in both particle physics and science studies, Andrew Pickering has published extensively in the field of science and technology studies. His research at the IAS explored the ways in which engineering is represented in unconventional contemporary art.
Jonathon Porritt Forum for the Future Hatfield College
As co-founder of the UK’s leading sustainable development charity, Forum for the Future, Jonathon Porritt plays a leading role in public policy. Working with ideas of utopia that were prominent in this IAS year, Porritt planned for a book to highlight the dearth of utopian thinking within the green movement. He also co-authored a report on civil liberties.
