E D I TO R ’S GREETING
July 2012
Our thanks to the Buckingham Palace officials for the timing of the visit to Nottingham by the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Coming just hours before our July edition deadline, were are able to bring you pages of pictures of the great event while it is fresh in the memory of readers. With the fanfares of Diamond Jubilee weekend still ringing in the ears, Nottingham gave the Queen a wonderful welcome. Her visits cannot happen often. We look forward to the next.
In this edition we flag up a series of events that have become part of Nottinghamshire’s summer fabric. Look out for the city’s Food and Drink Festival, which
shows off the wide range of cuisine now available in NG1; for the Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride, which is a wonderful experience for all who participate; for Armed Forces Weekend at Wollaton Park – the public’s chance to meet serving and former service personnel and come to understand a little of their experiences in conflicts past and present.
Looking ahead, our August edition will catch up with our Olympians – Mansfield’s Rebecca Adlington and the other local competitors who will be striving in London to beat the world’s best. We will also take a look a new book featuring the mansions of Nottinghamshire and go behind the scenes of the Theatre Royal’s ever-popular Classic Thriller Season.
