FAIR DEAL CLA: The campaigning rural voice
The CLA (Country Land and Business Association), which has around 34,000 members, supports landowners by advising them on how best to protect and maximise their asset: the land. The association is dedicated to supporting landowners and their businesses and has a team of experts in London and a regional structure, with six regional offices including one in the Midlands, to give local advice. The CLA has been looking after the interests of members and promoting the positive aspects of land ownership, land management and rural business activities
for more than 100 years. CLA members own or manage around half the rural land in England and Wales, and the resulting expertise helps it to formulate policies and lobby effectively.
Recent and current campaigns include the fight against the proposed increase in VAT on alterations to listed buildings, a campaign to stop cash payments for scrap metal to combat theft, and a long-running campaign for adequate rural broadband. The CLA owns and runs the Game Fair
which gives it an opportunity to bring its services to a very wide audience. More information:

Lord Esmiston, chairman of Subaru’s UK distributors International Motor Group (IMG), and Edward Ruggles-Brise will present the winner with the Sir John Ruggles-Brise Trophy. Sir John was the CLA president who gave the go-ahead to the game fair 54 years ago and Edward is his g r e a t - n e p h e w. Paul added: “We hope the trophy will become a much sought-after accolade for gundog owners at the fair and throughout the gundog world.” On all three days, the CLA Game Fair is the place for rural business with leading firms, organisations and opinion formers attending. The Woodland Management, Renewables Theatre and Gamekeepers/Estate Management sections present the latest technologies, products and services.
