Assessment
Information gathered in a skills audit will enable you to take better advantage of different assessment opportunities as you will know which areas to discuss, to include in written tests or to note down during observation. There are different assessment options at four key stages of the recruitment and induction process. You will need to decide which option is most suitable given time constraints, job role, level of detail required, etc. but you will find below some tips and exemplar resources -
Interview
- an opportunity to make an initial assessment of speaking and listening skills
Written assessment
- contextualised tasks and questions to assess reading, writing and numeracy skills
Induction
- an extended opportunity to observe a person interact with others and their use of literacy and numeracy skills to complete training tasks
Personal Development Plan
- an employee's support needs can be discussed written up as targets
