“Can I catch an episode of A Place in the Sun I missed?”

Dear Editor You helped us last year when we were looking at buying an apartment in Lanzarote, where the prices have not dropped as low as the rest of Spain. We have friends who have purchased and live in the Murcia region of Spain and apartment prices have dropped like a stone, especially on certain golf resorts. We understand that Jasmine produced a show for this region and it

was shown on TV in February this year. Is there any way that you could forward a link to the show or DVD for us to view it? I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards, Judith & Frank Flood, by email

Dear Judith and Frank, Lovely to hear from you. You can actually catch up with the episode that you missed – or any others in the new series - on our website: the Murcia episode was number 14 and can be found at www.aplaceinthesun.com/tvshow/ aplaceinthesunwintersun/series1/episode14.aspx Good luck, keep us posted on your property search, and look out for more episodes of the new series in the autumn! – Ed

HOW CAN I GET AN NIE NUMBER IN SPAIN?

Dear Liz,

Can you please advise me how to get an ID number to purchase a property in Spain? Do I need to go to Spain myself and are there any costs involved?

Chris Williams, by email

I think you are referring to an NIE number. You cannot buy a property in Spain without a NIE number (Numero de Identifi cación de Extranjero), which is an identity/fi scal number for non-Spaniards. So, apply for this as soon as you start looking for a property. Currently, you must apply for your NIE number in person (although the rules on this tend to change from time to time). A NIE number is obtained from the Policia Nacional, who have offi ces in all major towns and cities throughout Spain. Most estate agents and lawyers will help you apply for your NIE number, which is help worth accepting. Although the application process is simple, it can appear complicated, as the application form is in Spanish and the correct offi ce (and queue) can be awkward to fi nd.

A valid passport is needed and once the form is fi lled in you are handed a payment form upon which to pay a fee (around €10). This fee must be paid at a bank, which will then stamp the payment form. The payment form is then taken back to where the application was made (normally the same day) and the completed NIE form is then provided to you with the number on

it. The procedure may vary from region to region (as so many things do in Spain).
