The Best of Kylie Minogue KYLIE MINOGUE You’d have to be pretty much a hardcore fan of
Kylie Minogue to know all of the 21 songs on The Best of Kylie available now. What sets this collection apart, is that her international fan base did the song selections. Every track is musically invigorating to hear. Even early material shines with her megawatt style and talent. From her covers of “Give Me Just a Little More Time”
and “Celebration” to the more recent “Get Outta My Way” or “Red Blooded Woman,” there is not a bad apple in the bunch. The special edition CD/DVD also includes an amazing set of 23 Minogue music videos from her 25-year career.
Overexposed MAROON 5 And the Gold Medal for the finest pop record of
the summer goes to… Maroon 5’s Overexposed! Released June 26. Let’s examine the elements of this, shall we? The material written is clever and smart. In regards to love and relationships, the lyrics are also emotionally real. The beats and production values are tight and well done. Adam Levine’s vocals soar and he realistically tells
it like it is. He is clearly enjoying this direction into 100 percent pure pop music. The 12 songs spun on Over- exposed create a distinct summer sizzle and spark to positively add musical sunshine to this season. A favorite track out of many on this is “Lucky Strike.” It’s evident that the group hit the mark on Overexposed, skillfully knocking all those pins down for the win.

sive… Yet, you peal out with laughter, that’s Sarah Silverman” – as sung to The Addams Family song. Along with her two gay neighbors, an adoring and tolerant sister, plus her sister’s boyfriend, a cop Sarah loves to hate… the whole ensemble of The Sarah Silverman Show is one hilarious and eccentric barrel of monkeys. The complete series is a master laughter blaster and even though it is honestly silly, stupid and at times an, “Oh no, she didn’t!” Let your serious attitude go on holiday and enjoy. Released on June 19, some of the episodes are
centered on lesbian and gay relationships, bestial- ity, drug use and racism… yet by the end of each episode, Silverman manages to bring her own backhanded logic to the proceedings.
Ptown Diaries During the height of the summer months, Provinc-
etown is a one-of-a-kind travel experience. Maybe those who have been there only remember Com- mercial Street and wild partying at the t-dances, bars and nightclubs. Ptown Diaries available now, takes Provincetown a step further and offers a rich tapestry of the historical, charitable, artistic and sociological aspects of what Norman Mailer has described as “The freest place in America.” An interesting facet is that extraordinary play-
wrights Eugene O’Neill and Tennessee Williams and literary greats Norman Mailer and Michael Cunning- ham spent a majority of their summers exclusively in Provincetown—observations are provided by Mailer and Cunningham for the documentary. Narrated by Alan Cumming and directed by Joseph Mantegna, Ptown Diaries is an informative precursor when Ptown is the upcoming travel destination.
Hillcrest/92103 KELLY METZ-MATTHEWS AND THOMAS GRAFF “Hillcrest/92103 is a love letter to the surroundings,
the people and the beauty of Hillcrest and ideal for newly transplanted residents of the city.” Writer Kelly Metz-Matthews’ descriptive style of Hillcrest adds a special glow and pride to what many have termed the “gayborhood.” Artistically, photographer Thomas Graff’s visually rich color images are a beautiful ad- dition. His photos could easily be mass-produced as prints for anyone looking to display a bit of his art of Hillcrest in their surroundings. Also recognizable are business owners such as
Babette Schwartz or the general manager, Moe of Gossip Grill, with numerous other community notables and business people are also represented. For those who are long-term residents of Hillcrest, Hillcrest/92103 will offer many moments of “Oh, I’ve been there” or “Remember when?” Available in local bookstores or

Mercury LESLEY-ANN JONES Mercury, out on July 3 by music journalist and
author Lesley-Ann Jones is a loving, thoroughly researched and balanced account of “the boy who would be Queen,” Freddie Mercury. Jones toured extensively with the band and presents a detailed biography of Freddie Mercury’s life and career. Hun- dreds of interviews with friends, family, fellow music artists and business associates provide a true insight to the music icon and the man behind the rock god. Mercury had a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” side to his persona; in private he was shy, polite and introspec- tive. On stage, he erupted like an active volcano of energy with his legendary voice, charisma and charm. For perhaps what is the definitive bio on the superstar, author Lesley-Ann Jones will definitely “rock you” into Freddie Mercury’s world.
