MY RUNNING LIFE

With a running career spanning only 3 years,

Paul Daly has managed to set up his own club, become a certified run

leader and is preparing for his first marathon in October...

WHO IS PAUL DALY?

I’M A 40 YEAR OLD marketing manager living in Stockport. I have been running for around 3 years, but have only started taking part in events over the last year.

HOW DO YOU TRAIN?

AT THE MOMENT, I have a fixed training pattern of road running in which I go out for a few 4 or 5 mile runs around the Manchester and Stockport area per week.

FUN OR SERIOUS RUNNER ...

I WOULD consider myself to be a serious runner (photo confirms that, Paul) although if I see any local fun runs I usually enter. Last year I took part in the Liverpool Santa Dash, an amazing day, the city was completely transformed and the atmosphere totally incredible

WHERE DO YOU RUN? IF I JUST want to chill out and have an ‘off- road’run, I head for the local nature reserve; for longer runs I’ve worked out an 8 mile circular route which takes me across the river to Stockton before heading east, back over the Tees towards Ingleby and then home. It’s mostly cycle paths but there’s a couple of climbs so some variety too.

CROSS TRAINING?

I’M ABOUT TO start training for Chester marathon, so on top of increasing my distance, I’m planning to include cyclying, swimming and general core fitness in my programme.

PACK OR SOLO? BOTH REALLY, I mostly train on my own but do prefer running with someone else or within a group. As we all know, running on your own can be hard sometimes, especially after a long day’s work. Running with a buddy or in a group definitely gives you the extra boost you need to get out.
