PRE-RACE FAVOURITES Steve Vernon and Andi Jones lived up to their billing as they led England to victory at the first ever Karrimor Great Trail Challenge. The event, organised by the team behind the Great North Run, saw England defeat Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the four nation international match. The internationalists tackled a challenging 10km course in Keswick in testing conditions. Vernon, a former English National Cross Country champion, excelled on the terrain and was first overall in 31:57, with Jones sealing second place.

Stockton Rat Race Back
MADCAP ADVENTURE race action returns to Stockton on August 26 with the third running of the River Rat Race in the town. Entrants are guaranteed all sorts of riverside mayhem - obstacles, kayaking stages, climbing stages and - top of the bill - a 20 foot jump off the side of a ship. Although regular dunkings are the order of the day, non-swimmers will be offered alternatives where needed. Buoyancy aids are also provided by the organisers. Full story at
