Ofsted praise for ‘inspiring staff’
MADGINFORD Pre-School has been rated outstanding by Of- sted inspectors. Their report said staff at the pre-school in Bearsted had a highly-positive team spirit and were highly motivated to im- prove learning outcomes for children. The leader was said to be an “inspiring rolemodel”, and her staff “highly knowledgeable and enthusiastic”. Children were well prepared
for the move to local primary schools, and there were oppor- tunities for them to visit the schools and meet staff. The welfare of children is a
top priority, and strict risk as- sessments of the premises and activities meant they were kept
safe and happy. Children play and learn in a “spacious, stim- ulating and harmonious envi- ronment” with plenty of exciting resources which pro- moted learning. Excellent use wasmade of in-
door and outdoor areas and children were able to help themselves to a wide range of toys and games. The staff were said to have an excellent relationship with par- ents, which enabled a consis- tent approach to children’s learning and development. Inspectors said the pre-school
could improve still further by extending parents’ involvement with learning, enhancing the links between home and pre- school.

Top marks for players’ effort
The Importance of Being Earnest by The Lenham Players
WHEN I was 14, and a pupil at the all-boys Rochester Math School, I played Lady Bracknell. Lenham Players’ Linda Gemmell, was, I’m sure, much more convincing. It’s not an easy part, but she was excel- lent. Her interview with Jack was brilliant. James Cooke’s Algernon looked naughty and acted just like one of the Bullingdon Boys. David Head’s Jack, on the other hand, gave just the right impression of a rich or- phan who was soppy over Joanne Head’s delightfully cal- culated Gwendolen. Cheryl Price’s impatient Ce-
cily clearly realised what a good catch she was. Lynn
Bryan’s Prism was winningly repressed, but what a pity her novel was never published. She was going to have a wonderful

future with Glenn Bryan’s Chasuble. If all priests were like him, churches would be packed. He was lovely. Gary Cooke and Colin Leg-
gatt were the suitably Down- ton-type lower order as Merrieman and Lane. The largely photographic sets worked brilliantly and the cos- tumes were excellent. Topmarks for director David Abson and all his team.
