Parishes to

share PCSO BOXLEY Parish Council has been asked to amend its con- tract with Kent Police to clarify the deployment of the PCSO. The council pays half the cost

of the PCSO’s 37-hour week, entitling it to full cover, but changes in neighbourhood policing left Bredhurst without a PCSO and Boxley’s PCSO, Andy Hawthorn, providing limited temporary cover for the adjacent parish. Insp Geoff Wyatt, of the neighbourhood policing unit, has written to Boxley concern- ing the cover for Bredhurst being on a permanent basis. He estimated that the PCSO

was needed there for one hour a week, mainly for general pa- trols and attending parish council meetings, as the level of crime and disorder in Bred- hurst was negligible and re- quired a minimal policing presence. Boxley councillors did not

wish to see Bredhurst without a PCSO, but agreed to write to the police affirming the current partnership agreement. At a meeting of Bredhurst parish council, where there was no police representation, Cllr Bill suggested ameeting be arranged between the two councils to discuss patrolling and attendance at meetings.

Ofsted praises pre-school

STAFF at Linden Lea Nursery School in Weavering Street are thrilled after Ofsted Inspectors judged their school to be out- standing in all areas. Owner Philip Hull thanked

the staff for their dedication to providing high-quality child- care, and parents for giving pos- itive feedback to the inspectors. Manager Sharon Baker put the school’s success down to a good balance of long-term staff and team work. The Ofsted team said staff promoted the needs of each child, while supporting their welfare and learning. Children were encouraged to safely ex- plore their boundaries and made exceptional progress throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage.
