Residential Heating/Air Conditioning

Offering maintenance, service and installations to residents in Ottawa West, Almonte, Arnprior and Carleton Place

By BRIAN WARREN It was a sunny Monday morning at 7 when I hooked

up with Todd Langille, our Bounder photographer, and headed out Hwy 17 to find our next man cave, located somewhere near Crysler. Our Google map got us there at 7:45. We met with

Chris Wert, Sales Manager and partner of Hurst Marine. We had heard that Chris had a pretty cool man cave.

It turns out this is his third. First is his hunt camp; second is his ice fishing hut; and now it’s part of his home. You can only access his cave through the back of the

garage. It houses a couple of Harleys and an ATV. We were retty impressed so far. The steps are narrow and have a big bull’s eye at the

base. Chris said something about hitting the bull’s eye if you come down too fast... Up the stairs is an impressive two-level man cave.

Chris only purchased the home last July, so he has done a fantastic job. He pointed out right away that the walls were painted four shades of grey that change tones with the light. After all, ‘’caves are usually grey ‘’ he explained. The main floor houses a flat-screen TV, stereo, and

some comfortable couches and chairs. There’s a woodstove in the far corner. The landing is home to his guitar

collection with amps and a drum machine. “So,” I asked, “where’s the bar?’’ Chris pointed to a neatly-stacked

pile of lumber in the far corner. ‘’Right there,’’ he said. The soon-

to-be-built bar will be constructed from a pine tree that was leaning too close to the cottage, so when it came down, Chris had it milled. It had to sit for a year to properly dry or it would have split. “That [the bar] is the next priority,’’

he said. Needless to say, Chris has got one

impressive man cave. I’m hoping to get invited back (not at 7 am) to check out the bar when it’s completed.

Chris receives a Moosehead sign and a free case of Moosehead beer for being featured in Bounder Magazine.
