The next GenAiration in ventilation

The problems of tenant impact on the efficiency of ventilation is overcome with an ‘intelligent’ approach from Passivent Ltd. The company’s new, unique GenAiration system brings together the benefits of traditional MVHR (mechanical ventilation with heat recovery) systems with a raft of developments that eliminate any occupier input and their ability to affect the ventilation performance. As a result, the potential issues of damp, condensation, over or under-ventilation, and high energy usage are overcome, and the ventilation works effectively with optimum energy efficiency up to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6. Passivent product manager, Dennis Bates explains: “From our research, there are issues with MVHR, especially from social landlords. The valves in each room have to be accurately set at the initial installation stage, which is a time-consuming process - altering one throws the whole balance out. Once installed, as/when the system is boosted, it is not able to recognise in which room the extra ventilation is required. It therefore instead boosts the extraction rate in all rooms, whether or not they are occupied and require the extra ventilation.” Passivent GenAiration combines the recognised benefits of traditional MVHR with those of demand controlled humidity sensitive ventilation, to ensure rooms are adequately ventilated, but only as necessary. It provides additional benefits too, delivering greater control, thereby reducing energy consumption, being quicker and easier to install and commission, and eliminating any need for occupier input. Passivent GenAiration centres around humidity sensitive extracts in each room, coupled with a self-regulating airflow system to ‘intelligently’ ventilate only as, where and when needed, without any occupier input. The humidity sensitive extracts in each room sense when ventilation is needed, opening to increase extraction in that zone only without any occupier input. Non-adjustable extract and supply valves eliminate potential for under or over-ventilation caused by occupier interference. GenAiration maintains a constant fan speed to achieve effective whole-house ventilation, reducing energy consumption as there are no energy increases as extraction is boosted. Innovatively, it can be connected up using traditional rigid circular or flat channel ducting, or new SRD75 small bore semi-rigid ducting, which can be concealed in ceiling voids or stud walling, and cuts ducting installation time by up to 50 percent. For more information telephone 0161 962 7113 or visit www.passivent.com
