KBB REVIEW
The future looks bright at KBB Cutting edge innovation round every corner
KBB Birmingham welcomed just shy of 14,000 visitors over four days. Held at the National Exhibition Centre from 4-7 March, business was brisk despite the grey economic outlook. Following on from last year’s London’s event where Rock Galpin’s inspirational 2020 Future Bathroom display gave an indication of the shape of things to come within the sector, the Birmingham halls were packed with new launches and cutting-edge innovation.
A reflection of the quality of deign on
display, seven KBB companies have made the prestigious 'Best of the Best' list at this year's Red Dot product design awards. Polish manufacturer Amica won the top award for the Zen built-in oven, while Danish company Trepol triumphed thanks to the ceiling-mounted Conus hood. Three German manufacturers feature on the list: Hansgrohe, for the Axor Citterio M kitchen mixer with pivoting
spout; Duravit, for the OpenSpace shower screen; and Küppersbusch, for the KE 9700-0-2TZ fridge-freezer. The Blow radiator from Italian brand Cordivari was also successful, as was the KuQua range of ceramic tiles from Austrian company Karak. The official announcement of the winners will be made on 2 July at the Red Dot gala at the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany. "Companies have realised that investing in design offers considerable added value," Red Dot CEO, Professor Dr Peter Zec says. "In the end, the design of a product is the most important incentive for the purchase decision of a consumer.” Here, we take a look at some of the other innovative products on display at this year’s KBB event…
ACO Building Drainage showcased a full range of innovative bathroom products at KBB in March, including the new wetroom former. On show for the first time, the ACO wetroom former presents a significant leap in efficiency by speeding up the installation process and ensuring a perfect fit. With a profile of just 20mm, the wetroom former is suitable for all floor constructions, removing the need to carry out the kind of modifications to the floor area demanded by competing products of
40mm profile. Also on display at KBB were ACO’s high-end bathroom drainage products, designed to transform the bathroom into a more chic, luxurious space. The ACO ShowerDrain Walk-in Solution is a two-component system comprising an electro-polished stainless steel tray and a choice of two high-quality wooden gratings, and is designed specifically to be fully integrated in dry zone areas of wetroom floors, offering a sophisticated, minimalist, cutting-edge look.
