The sustainable construction show attracted over 60,000 visitors and encouragingly there was a positive atmosphere evident from both visitors and exhibitors throughout the exhibition. There was particular interest in Smart’s message of sustainable building solutions, which corresponded well with the theme of the exhibition. Visitors were particularly interested to learn that 50 percent of the aluminium billet used by Smart is recycled aluminium. Smart also discussed with attendees their aim of achieving a carbon neutral production operation through pursuing sustainable power generation. Renewable energy solutions specialist Infinite Energy exhibited the ElectroPort Curve, a solar charging station for Electric and Hybrid vehicles, at Ecobuild. This new solar car park canopy is elegant but durable in design, and the modular system can be installed in any car park. With energy prices continuing to soar it is essential that businesses look at ways of becoming greener. The solar energy generated from the canopy can be used on-site to reduce energy bills as well as provide a charging point for electric cars. The ElectroPort Curve is a two-bay curve which is 5m (2.5m per bay) wide to fit existing car park spaces. It is fast and easy to install with minimal disruption into any car park, be it a supermarket, shopping centre or DIY store. A two-bay curve installation would generate approximately 3,200kWh per annum. With the number of electric cars increasing year on year, the ElectroPort Curve will be an attraction to stores nationwide, as customers can shop whilst their vehicles are being charged. All the leading charging point manufacturer designs can be integrated into the structure.

The Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, Greg Barker, gave a comprehensive speech about the Green Deal at Ecobuild, during which, he acknowledged the National Insulation Association’s (NIA) proactive work towards the Green Deal with its new Green Deal Bulletin Service. Mr Barker described how the industry is gearing up for the Green Deal and stated that the NIA’s new bulletin service is aimed at providing its members with the latest information and support available. Bev Coombe, Membership and
Communications Manager says: “The NIA is delighted that the Minister mentioned our new members’ Green Deal Bulletin Service in his speech as this highlights the Government’s recognition of the work that has been undertaken by the NIA in the run up to the launch of the Green Deal later this year. The NIA is heavily involved in developing the Green Deal with Government and is well placed to provide information, advice and support to its members wishing to be involved in the Deal. Our Bulletin Service does just this, delivering a mine of easily accessible information to the members who will be actively involved in the initiative.”
