great statement as the thriller in your con- tainer. They will bloom most of the year and can be dug up and stored in winter. Or just take in the whole container if you prefer. In tropical areas, callas bloom pretty much year round, but our winters do not produce enough light for this to happen. Colour va- rieties are endless. Cloud grass (Agrostis nebulosa). At

45 cm (18 inches), this isn’t the tallest grass in the world, but the clouds of tiny panicles will make a statement in any con- tainer. Can be used as the “filler” part of the pot.

spindly plants appeared, so if you tried it then, try it now. I think you’ll be thrilled. Tiarella ‘Happy Trails’. This trailing foamflower is perfect for the shade basket. Deeply lobed, well marked leaves are orna- mental in their own right. Lophospermum erubescens (also known

as creeping gloxinia). This is a wonderful trailing or climbing plant with grape shaped leaves and tube shaped flowers. The red vari- ety attracts hummingbirds, but it also comes in white, pink and purple. Excellent as the

spiller or as climbers in a perennial basket. Ornamental strawberry (Fragaria ‘Lip-

stick’). Any strawberry plant would work as an intriguing spiller, but this one has pretty pink flowers before the fruit appears. Salvia ‘Victoria Blue’. The perfect thriller

plant for a smaller container. The blue spikes of this long blooming annual will brighten the eye until frost.
