Pretty Petunias Pretty Petunias Petunia ‘Pink Lemonade’. As always, I’m a sucker for petunias and
one that catches my eye this year is called Pink Lemonade. A member of Ball’s mounded, 8 to 12 inch Suncatcher series, it’s a two-tone, yellow and pink with pink edges and highlights on a yellow base. It is said to hold its colours well.
‘Rhythm and Blues’. ‘Black Velvet’.
‘Pink Lemonade’. Petunia ‘Rhythm and Blues’. Always looking for the perfect
blue, petunia lovers will have to be satisfied with this violet stunner which sports a white edge. It’s a trailer, growing 12 to 16 inches. Petunia ‘Black Velvet’, ‘Pinstripe’ and ‘Midnight Blue’. Black
Velvet petunia was very hot last year, along with its striped cousins that came in varying widths of yellow stripes, but this year, watch for ‘Midnight Blue’, a deep velvety purple often shown paired with red or hot orange.
FleeceflowerFleeceflower ‘Midnight Blue’. Persicaria polymorpha, Gi-
ant Fleeceflower. When I saw this stunning plant blooming at an Edmonton garden cen- tre, I was completely smitten. It was eight feet tall and just as wide and covered in white plumes. When I saw it again in a garden, the love affair grew deeper. If you have the room for this fabulous plant, you will want it for its structure and its length of blooming time – not to mention its sheer beauty. Tolerates heat and drought and performs well all year. Pe- rennial.
