Two years ago, we interviewed Jason Stapleton to understand how he had turned $250.000 into $940.000 in 90 days at the Varengold Trading Challenge, generating short of 300% return in 3 months. At the time, participating to a trading challenge was a way for him to provide evidence of his trading performance - which was so good that people didn’t believe him, even when he was showing his personal statements.
Today, Jason runs a very successful forex training business designed to provide support and training tools to aspiring traders that help them master the markets. Over nearly a decade of trading and teaching Jason has trained thousands of traders and has watched many of his students become professional traders and money managers themselves. He has decided to form a private equity fund that will operate much like a hedge fund, which will recruit the best traders from the training program and give them the opportunity to trade full time.
Professional trader, Co-Founder of the Trading Institute and Managing Partner at Harborsite Capital, Jason tells FX Trader Magazine how he manages to cope with trading his account, training traders and at the same time launching a new Money Management program.
FXTM: It’s been exactly two years
since our last interview. (see “300% trading return in 3 months” interview with Jason Stapleton – FX Trader Magazine April-June 2010 edition). How have you performed and evolved as trader in the last two years?
JS: It’s really been a firestorm of
activity. Aſter your last article my phone started ringing off the hook. Everyone from hedge funds looking to give me money, to independent traders who were desperately looking for someone who could teach them the secret to making money. My little education program has grown into the number one place for traders to learn the skill of trading.
FXTM: It is great to hear that you
are now running a very successful forex training company. Can you tell us a little bit more about your education program?
JS: Yes, we measure “success” by our
traders. I was just in Austin last week and had the chance to meet three of the traders I’ve been working with for the past year or so. Two of them are now full time traders and the third is getting ready to start. Tat’s just people from Texas! We’ve now trained traders in over 80 countries. We’re one of the largest and most well respected educators in the world. It just feels so good.
FXTM: What type of technique or
systems do you teach your students? JS: What most traders don’t realize is
the “system” is not the most important thing about trading. What’s really important is the psychology. You’ve got to have your head in the right place if you want to make money. As far as systems go we teach both Technical Analysis based on structure, harmonics, and Fibonacci, and we also have mechanical systems. I tend to direct new traders toward mechanical systems because they rely less on a trader’s skill and focus more on following a set of rules.
