CURE

FOR THE COMMON CODE

As we discussed in my previous column, this is an excellent time to purchase commercial property given today’s low costs, low interest rates and availability of inventory. We listed the pros and cons of buying an existing building and making improvements to it versus constructing a new structure, and we stated it is of the utmost importance to shop with a qualified real estate agent and a certified construction contractor by your side to help determine what is the best value for your money.

As with any project, beware of being undercapitalized; before making your purchase, be sure to set aside a hefty percentage of your business budget for repairs, maintenance and perhaps future remodeling. In any case, a critical part of having a building ready for a business to occupy is making sure everything is up to code.
