Digestive issues: Stomach-solution point Digestive issues may come up at any time of the year, especially, during cold and hot seasons, or when travel- ing. As every body knows, the exotic food , bad/tainted food, an unfamiliar environment or less-than-sanitary conditions can wreak havoc on normal digestion. The main digestive problems may involve abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. Oftentimes these symptoms are accompanying fatigue and weak- ness. Before any medications or healthcare professional arrives, there is an acupoint you can activate by yourself. It is located on the outer shin just below the knee. You need to relax to let your leg straight, place your four fingers on your knee with the index finger against the kneecap. Mark the horizontal level under the pinky fin- ger. At that level, using the middle section of your middle finger, place the knuckle on the shin bone, where the second knuckle lands (going toward the outside of the leg) is the vertical line. At the intersection is the point. Press harder to check if it is the correct point. If it is ten- der, that means you have found the right point.
Insomnia and disturbed dreams: Peaceful-sleep point There are so many people who suffer from insomnia or disturbed dreams nightly. There are various reasons, such as, jetlag, new surroundings, stress, or indigestion. There is an acupoint that may assist you to sleep peace- fully. All you need is to press on it lightly to ease yourself into a restful slumber and reduce excessive dreaming. This acupoint is located on the neck area. You will find the styloid process muscle on the side of the neck, fol- low that up to where it meets the skull. There it forms an A-like depression with the skull going toward the back of the head -- that’s the point.
Anxiety and over-thinking: Spirit-calming point Every body has stress. Some people are able to release it quickly, some people slowly. When the stress is on, anxiety and worry are often its companions. Anxiety and worry also can cause heart problems. When the mind is racing, use an acupoint to relieve anxiety and calm down. This acupoint is at the underside of the wrist and find the
last tendon on the pinky side. It is just inside that tendon on the wrist crease next to the palm. Simply rub or press the point lightly to reduces stress and also help in falling asleep. You may combine this with the Peaceful-sleep point to get better results.
Overall wellness: Supplementary point There is an acupoint that is on the inside of the ankle, in the depression located halfway between the Achilles and the most prominent point of the ankle bone. This acupoint is often used in combination for greater effect. This point can aid the success of the above listed points for dry or sore throat and dizziness, headache and con- stipation, lower back pain, insomnia and fatigue. This point may also provide some comfort when you’re stuck without a bathroom break.
Putting pressure on acupoints, is known as acupressure. Acupressure is used without a needle. Acupressure can be used to encourage “Qi” or energy flow, straightens out imbalances in the body, activates the immune system and aids proper circulation. It heals the body and saves life. When finding acupoints, follow the instructions pro- vided but always seek to find the sore or tender point, usually next to a bone or tendon, as that will be most effective. Acupoints are symmetrical on both sides of the body and one side may work better than the other. Some points and conditions respond better to massage while others to pressure. Sometimes lighter pressure works better, other times harder.
