we set out to publish the third edition of this magazine. We are thrilled to put before you this bold collage of work – the fruit of committed artists, writers, editors, designers and dreamers. Stitched together in these pages are passionate, personal and critical reflections of our world. Red Slam Collective and Lena Recollet start us on an exploration of our roots in Aboriginal story, struggle and identity. The Beehive Collective helps us visualize the fallout of colonialism. Nisha Ahuja asks what it means to ‘decolonize’ through art and medicine while Alejandra Higuera reminds us that we carry these histories with us, wherever we go, as migrants and new Canadians. Irma Villafuerte and Peter Kugba-Nyande bring to light

the often-ignored impacts of war that seep from one generation to the next. Jodie Baker and David Lane share

their critiques of the ‘development’ world while Allan Lissner and Handicap International bring us personal and collective successes within the sector. Amidst all these messages, Joanne Hodges, Javier

Navarrete Bravo and Remy Bargout bring a post-modern analysis, challenging us to explore the power of the medium itself. How far can a tweet, a photo, a t-shirt really go? And to inspire future reading, our editors Jack Litster,

Angela Wallace and Racquel Smith share their two cents on the hottest books in the international NGO world. Finally, Riad of Gorilla Brigade challenges us to find

the threads between the between music and metaphor, between one page and the next, through a running cartoon series beginning right on this page. We are reminded that everything truly is connected. Through it all, we are left inspired by all of our contributors who are a true testament that ideas, actions and movements come from the heart. With the telling words of our cover artist Allan Lissner,

in “the search for knowledge, the desire for meaning”, we hope that you enjoy the journey of watching, listening and reading your way through this magazine. We couldn’t be happier to bring you this third volume of iAM, with a daring hope for the ones that follow.
