The animation illustrates the struggles that Enrique faced upon arrival: adapting to a new culture, a new language, the weather and the need to find a job, the racism and many other challenges he would encounter throughout his thirty eight years in Canada, and losing it all. From there Soy Latino Señor Gringo follows


his animation seeks to rescue the urban history and collective memory of Toronto’s Latin American community. Soy Latino Señor Gringo documents the story of Enrique Castro and his


Enrique as he moves to dedicate his life to his true passions – poetry, acting, teaching seniors and his family.


// Alejandra Higuera is a photographer, percussionist,


animator and visual chemist. She has been involved in Community Arts for the last five years with organizations including Sketch and The Hispanic Developing Council. Having traveled to Brazil in 2010 for an internship at Dilema Studio, a video production company, she returned to Toronto to dedicate herself to the study of Art, an endeavor she’s pursuing with all her heart . These days you may find her bringing thoughts to life at OCAD, working with youth in community programs, photographing the beautiful people of Toronto or just chilling in St. James Town.
