So it naturally follows that there has never been a more important time to talk about how we view each other
n Canada, and especially in Toronto, we are increasingly finding the world at our door step; the world is in our own neighborhoods. In 2010, Canada welcomed a record-breaking 280,000 new immigrants to the country and
and never before has it been so important for us to hold stereotypes and dominant narratives in check. We are saturated with images; they surround us in
the news, in television, in movies, newspapers, ads and magazines. These images combined with other information help us understand the world and inform our opinions. When you think about it there are many images and
stories we see repeated over and over in the media. The continent of Africa as full of starvation and helplessness,
