CORBIN ART CENTER PROGRAMS
From Subjects to Storytelling 1 day | David Wolman In this workshop, nonfiction author and award-winning journalist
David Wolman will share
tips about how to make the transition from subject to story. Autism. Egypt’s revolution. GMOs. Internet fraud. The world is filled with an infinite number of interesting topics. But as a writer, how do you seek out the kinds of salient information, tension, and—most of all— characters to bring an issue to life? How do you craft a narrative that leaves readers with the feeling that they have read a story, not a research paper? Wolman will share a few examples of how he was able to go from subject to story. Workshop participants will then share writing project ideas, and brainstorm reporting plans with the aim of helping one another home in on compelling and promising angles. Held at the EWU Riverpoint Campus, Phase 1 Building. Pre-registration suggested; general admission $30/$20 w/student ID. Sa 4/14
