RTI Advanced Forming, January 2012


The first TIG meeting of 2012 will be hosted by TIG members RTI Advanced Forming (formerly Aeromet) at their Welwyn Garden City site. With a theme of forming of titanium, RTI Advanced Forming will be giving a presentation on ‘Superplastic Forming in a Production Environment’ and a tour of their facilities.


This will be complemented by a presentation from Sandvik Heating Technology on ‘Sandvik's Heating Technology and Super Plastic Forming’.

Titanium in Architecture and Design, July 2012 As part of our continuing efforts to engage TIG members with all markets of titanium, we are planning to explore the application of ‘Titanium in Architecture and Design’ at this year’s July TIG meeting.


Architecture and Design remains a strong market for titanium, with titanium used in notable buildings for its corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal, whilst application in high-end consumer products is a growing area due to its light-weight, high-strength and the improving capabilities of advanced manufacturing and joining techniques.


In recognition of the importance of engaging with the UK’s academic community in titanium research, TIG’s second meeting of 2012 will be hosted by TIG member Manchester University and will feature a line-up of presentations from students and researchers working in the field of titanium from across the UK.


This meeting will be an opportunity for TIG members to meet researchers working on a variety of titanium areas and for industry and academia to improve their mutual understanding of each others’ interests.
