2nd European Titanium Conference, March 2012 The most significant highlight on the TIG event calendar for 2012 will be the 2nd European Titanium Conference, planned for 27-28th March at Tortworth Court, Bristol. The event is sponsored by TIG members VSMPO and RTI, and will feature a line-up of over 40 presentations from world-leaders in the field of titanium. Technology and market areas will be explored including: current and future markets for titanium; microstructure, texture, and processing; near net shape forming; welding and joining; and machining and finishing. The two-day event will also feature a poster display, exhibition and conference dinner.


Harvey Flower Prize 2012 The Harvey Flower Titanium prize is dedicated to the memory of Imperial Professor Harvey Flower whose outstanding contributions to the science and technology of titanium led to a clearer and fuller understanding of the metal and its alloys.


The prize is awarded each year by the Titanium Information Group in recognition of contributions to the production, processing or use of titanium and its alloys. The prize is open to students, graduates and practicing materials engineers.


Titanium Trophy Design Competition Sponsored by TIG members the Mercury Centre (Sheffield University) and Poligrat, TIG is launching a competition to find a new

design for the trophy that will be awarded for this year’s Harvey Flower prize. The winning design will be manufactured from titanium by the Mercury Centre using ARCAM electron beam deposition and coloured by Poligrat. The aim of the competition is to raise the profile of titanium, the capabilities of the competition’s sponsors and the versatility of additive layer manufacturing.
