Chairman’s Statement

I would like to open by expressing my sincere thanks to my predecessor, Dr Alan Partridge, for the excellent work that he undertook as chair of the Titanium Information Group.

Alan has moved on from The National Metals Technology Centre to take up a role with Rolls Royce in Derby and we wish him every success in his new career.

TIG remains a key focal point for the titanium industry not just in the UK but on a wider basis. This year has seen a continued difficult economic climate but it has been pleasing to see many TIG members participating in our activities and contributing to the success of the events through the year.

In 2011 we held more events at member company premises, which not only helps promote that member but we also know the chance to tour member facilities is warmly received by delegates and we seek to continue this in 2012. 2011 also saw the formation of the NAMTEC Manufacturing Forum and TIG members have automatic access to all of the activities of the Forum as part of their member benefits.

2012 will be an exciting year for TIG. We are currently preparing an update of the TIG website bringing a fresh and more engaging feel and further enhancing the access to the group. In addition, March will see the 2nd European Titanium Conference to be held in Bristol with an outstanding list of presenters encompassing the very best from industry and academia. This promises to be an

exceptional two days and a unique opportunity to engage with colleagues from across the titanium field.

I am also looking forward to seeing the design put forward for the Harvey Flower Prize which for 2012 will be manufactured from titanium by the University of Sheffield Mercury Centre using ARCAM electron beam deposition and coloured by Poligrat.

I look forward to meeting you all at our events through next year.

Dr Alan McLelland Chairman of the Titanium Information Group
