Mote Park restoration… in pictures
Work to restore the grandeur of the former country park is now well underway and visitors will have noticed the many improvements taking shape.
The Mote Park restoration is funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) under their Parks for People scheme. Improvements made or underway include:
New formal inner and outer paths.
Removing some non-parkland trees and scrub to restore the parkland. Planting 100 new trees.
Upgrading the main car park including marked bays, shrub and tree planting.
Improving the Boat House and installing a hard surface promenade with new seating, tree planting, and sculptural play elements.
The new lakeside footpath
Relocating the model boat platform. Refurbishing the refreshment kiosk. Restoring the 1840s waterfall.
Restoring the neoclassical Volunteers Pavilion dating from the 1800s.
Replacing the existing ramp and small bridge across the lake with a 20m span timber and steel bridge.
Two additional visitor information hubs. • An area accessed from Willington Street will include car parking and a natural play area for teenagers.
• At School Lane there will be better parking with a separate pedestrian access and the play area will be relocated.
All the work is expected to be complete by June.
Construction of the viewing platform behind the café.
The new main car park which will reopen by Christmas.
Work starts on the lakeside promenade.
The project is funded jointly by MBC and the Heritage Lottery Parks for People Scheme.
