Video over IP opportunities for network system integrators Caught in the Net By James Smith, European Marketing Manager, Samsung Techwin Europe

James Smith explains the latest technology to become available to end-users seeking higher quality, integrated security solutions.

Until recently, Video over IP was primarily perceived as a solution for large scale projects. However, we are increasingly seeing the technology in small to medium sized installations. In a tough economic environment, clients are looking for maximum benefit from their investment in security and IP network based systems can provide IT and Network system integrators with an excellent opportunity to generate new business, whilst offering clients substantial cost and operational benefits compared to traditional analogue based solutions. The market figures are certainly in

agreement and video over IP is in a period of rapid growth, which is set to continue in the years to come as users choose IP in place of traditional analogue systems. With this in mind, Samsung are building successful business partnerships with integrators across Europe.

A major benefit to these business

partnerships is that IT and Network system integrators already know about issues such as hardware selection, bandwidth limitations, router protocols and IP addressing, as well as how to specify a suitable network for the job at hand.

These are extremely important considerations when looking at a video surveillance system. Of course, for business

partnerships to be built into long term relationships, they need to be of equal benefit to both parties. It is appreciated that for the

vast majority of IT and network system integrators, offering physical security to clients will be a new and unfamiliar activity and they need to be given the confidence to recommend, design and install an integrated IP network based access control and video surveillance system.
