Who’s Who in the Maryland Horse Council
ONE COMMON BOND - THE HORSE; ONE COMMON VOICE - MARYLAND HORSE COUNCIL T e Maryland Horse Council is the umbrella organization for all horse organizations in Maryland. T e board of directors consists of one
representative from each member organization, as well as directors at large who represent the individual, farm and business memberships, and youth groups. T e board of directors, which meets quarterly, elects the offi cers and the executive committee, which serves as the steering committee for the council, meeting monthly and conferring regularly to oversee housekeeping and planning issues for MHC. T ey are your representatives. Please feel free to voice your concerns or opinions to them, whether or not you are a member of MHC. MHC is here to serve the entire Maryland horse community. Current offi cers were installed on July 1, 2011 and will serve a term of two years. Executive Committee members are elected on a rotating basis and several seats will be up for re-election this summer.
President: Steuart Pittman Steuart Pittman, Jr. grew up riding with St. Mar-
garet’s Pony Club and the Marlborough Hunt Club and for the past fi fteen years has made his living as a breeder, trainer and competitor in three-day eventing through the Advanced level. Steuart was Maryland’s fi rst certifi ed USEA eventing instructor and he conducts clinics throughout the country. He graduated from the University of Chicago and then
spent eight years as a political and community organizer in Chicago, Des Moines, and Washington, DC. He put his skills as an organizer to good use for MHC during the campaign for the Maryland Horse Park and is now spearheading the creation of the Retired Racehorse Training Project, an educational organization that seeks to increase demand for T oroughbred ex-racehorses. phone 410-798-0503;

Vice President: Jane Seigler A graduate of Brown University and Rutgers Uni-
versity Law School, Jane completed a judicial clerk- ship with the DC Court of Appeals before entering private practice. Jane “retired” from active practice to serve for 27 years as the full-time chief operating offi cer of Reddemeade Farm, Inc. Now based at her own Dressage at Sundown, she teaches, rides, trains and competes in dressage through the FEI level. Jane has served on the Potomac Valley Dressage
Association board of directors, on Montgomery County’s Agricultural Advisory Committee, the steering committee of the Maryland Horse Forums, and has been the organizer of MHC’s Business Seminars. Treasurer: Royce Herman Royce is a graduate of Keystone College and the
University of Delaware School of Economics and has spent the last 40 years in food service market- ing. Before joining the MHC Executive Commit- tee, Royce served on the MHC Board of Directors as the representative for Tuckahoe Equestrian Cen- ter. He returned to horses later in life and is currently involved in trail riding, Mounted Cowboy Shooting and mounted Wild West shows. For 13 years, Royce
directed and acted in western shows for the Outlaw Days at Tuckahoe. He is a national pistol shooting competitor and master gunsmith, and is in the Maryland Hunter Safety Instructor Hall of Fame. phone 410-991-2203;

Elected Member: Christy Claggett Christy owns and operates Larking Hill Farm and
Training Center in Harwood where she rehabilitates and trains race horses, show jumpers and foxhunt- ers. She is a trainer, owner and breeder of racehorses, an ex-amateur jockey, and member of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. Christy is also Jt.-MFH of the Marlborough Hunt Club and the Chair of the MHC Committee to Support Racing.

Dr. Peter Radue graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. After completing a one-year internship in large animal surgery at the University of Guelph in On- tario, he joined Dr. Roger Scullin to form Damascus Equine Associates where his professional interests
