Did you make any? Have you kept to them so far? Perhaps one of the reasons that it is so difficult to keep New Year resolutions is that we try to change too many things at once. Maybe we should make them smaller and with rewards for success rather then beating ourselves up if we slip up. Small changes maintained over time produce much bigger and more lasting changes than short intense bursts of effort that are doomed to failure. It is far harder to start off peddling on a bike than it is to keep it going once you have got the momentum going.

Keeping your paperwork up to date is much easier if you set aside a little time each week. Why wait for a final demand for a bill or your phone being cut off as you have forgotten to pay. You do not have to do entire year’s accounts for the taxman in the last

week! You could do a little each month. What causes a lot of life’s “lumpy bits” is often what we have not done in a timely fashion. When the simple chores of life are completed ahead of time you are able to take advantage of enjoyable opportunities that come your way. What if someone said, “Would you like a weeks free holiday starting tomorrow at 8.00am?” Could you go? Would your passport be up to date if it was abroad? Would you know if you could afford the spending money you would need? Is the car checked over and with enough fuel ready to go? Could you pack in 15 minutes as all the washing and ironing is done? A lot of life’s best pleasures come from unexpected or unplanned invita- tions and events.

Aim to be ready to take advantage of any opportunities. Better still, be the one to make an opportunity for others. This is the best way of all! Do you know someone who is a bit down? Invite them out, even if it is just for a walk or a picnic, maybe a visit to the local pub. Ask them round for tea and a homemade cake.

Keep in touch with relatives and friends; just one call a week makes a big difference. When you help and support others they are there for you when you need help. Make the first move, it costs nothing. In this life what goes around comes around. You have to pay into the bank of life before you can draw from it. Spread a little happiness and watch it bounce back to you in so many ways.

The Coach House, Pucklechurch. BS16 9RB Telephone 0117 937 4166

Situated opposite the lovely church and next door to the tiny bakery in the village of Pucklechurch is the Coach House café. Pucklechurch resident Kathryn took over the café last year and fulfilled her long held ambition to have her own tea shop. With the fresh décor, wonderful home cooking and friendly staff it is a real gem.

You will be spoilt for choice. Why not treat yourself to one of their classic cream teas served on their finest vintage china? All the cakes are home made and the scones baked fresh every morning. Choose from a very wide selection of beverages including speciality hot chocolate and milkshakes with ice cream or cream. The latter is very popular in the summer, when you can enjoy the sun in their pretty courtyard garden.

The all day breakfast menu has many tempting options including the ever popular full English. A wide

choice on the lunch menu includes, baguettes,

toasted sandwiches,

salads, home made quiches, jacket potatoes and soup of the day.

A slice of home made apple pie and clotted cream or even a knickerbocker glory could be one of your options to finish your meal. Prices are very reasonable and the portions generous. A take away service is available.

In February Kathryn is running one of her themed evenings. Last month it was Spanish. February has a “Not Valentines Day!” evening. No canoodling or kissing allowed!! These evenings are really popular and pre-booking is essential as numbers are limited.

The Coach House has a selection of gifts for sale including a changing display of photographs and artwork by local residents including paintings and prints by local artist Alan Ward.
