BUSINESS DATA
If you have driven along the Westerleigh Road past the Folly Pub towards Emerson’s Green you will have seen the new Bristol & Bath Science Park taking shape.
The Science Park is a designated area (in this case a huge 59 acres) where science and tech- nology businesses can locate in a new world-class environment and it has very close links with three of our local universities.
The tall building nearest the road is called ‘The Forum’ and Inno- vation Centre Director Richard Pitkin kindly showed me around recently. I’m not a fan of many modern buildings but I have to say that The Forum is an amaz- ing, beautifully-designed build- ing, whether in daylight or lit at night. Richard explained that The Forum’s key function is to

meet and network. The shar- ing of ideas and encourage- ment of collaboration was behind the design of this building. A Friska at the Science Park Cafe (‘Feel Good Food’) focuses on organic, local, seasonal
food,
there are tables, formal and informal seating on
two levels and high tech meeting rooms for hire. Light, airy and heated by sustainable fuel it is certainly an impressive place.
Richard told me: “We want The Fo- rum be a business hub and meeting place for North Bris- tol and anybody can come
and meet
friends. colleagues and enjoy the cafe and inspirational surroundings
and
free wifi.” Nearby you will
find an
‘Innovation Centre’ and ‘Grow On Space’ where businesses are already relocating to office and laboratory space, some taking advantage of the option of a centralised reception and bu- reau services.
provide a place for occupants and Science Park users to eat,
Further away from the main road you may have noticed another large building; only
Many more companies are ex- pected to follow and they will find an infrastructure of roads and communications already in place. If you would like to know more there is a website to visit
www.bbsp.co.uk and I look forward to reporting more news on this exciting develop- ment. With thanks to Richard for my tour and for the photo- graphs.
